Legacy Music Festival

Sounds to nourish the soul

echoes of the ancestors

The Legacy Music Festival (LMF) provides a stage for Black musicians in Chattanooga, acknowledging the underrepresentation many talented performers face in local events. Our festival aims to showcase the diverse musical talents in our community, spanning classical, reggae, rock, hip-hop, soul, R&B, gospel, country, and more.

As the Chattanooga Festival of Black Arts & Ideas honors contemporary African-descendant artists, we recognize the need to pay homage to pioneers who shaped Black music. Therefore, we request all performers include music from genre trailblazers in their set, celebrating the profound influence of Black musicians, from African drummers to the groundbreaking sounds of Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Little Richard.

ABOUT THE LEGACY MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Legacy Music Festival echoes the profound influence of African and African American music on the global musical landscape, serving as a soul-enriching journey through diverse rhythms and melodies. African and African American music transcends cultural boundaries, shaping the world's musical tapestry.

Through soulful beats, resonant tunes, and powerful lyrics, this festival celebrates the strength, resilience, and beauty inherent in African and African American musical traditions. In honoring this legacy, our festival becomes a space for cultural exchange and collective enrichment, where the soulful echoes of African and African American music resonate, fostering unity and understanding across diverse communities.

"Every genre that is born from America has Black roots associated with it, from rock 'n' roll to blues to disco. The fingerprints of Black creators are all over what makes American music so unique."
