The Katherine Dunham Juba Dance Festival is the inaugural performance of the Juba Dance Ensemble under the artistic direction of Crystal Newson. The Juba Dance Ensemble Performance is a collaborative dance production that merges the world of dance and culture. This production is an extension of the Chattanooga Festival of Black Arts and Ideas to celebrate Juneteenth through the artform of dance.

Juba is a way to combine the worlds of dance history and dance education, allowing dancers and artists to train intensively and gain the experience and knowledge of our evolving dance culture. These artists have trained and performed across Hamilton County as students and professionals. For this particular performance, our goal is to educate our audience on the importance of African-American dance culture and be the representation for our African-American community.
